We are an official registrar of aero-domains, authorized by ICANN and SITA.
We register aero-domains fast and reliable. The aero-domain on the internet is derived from the word “aeronautics” and refers to a top-level domain within the domain registration system of the world wide web. Aero is the first sponsored high level domain that is based upon a specific industrial area of focus.
Exclusivity
The aero-domain is reserved exclusively for businesses, organizations, government agencies, associations and individuals in the aviation industry or a related field. It is an exclusive range of domains that were created in 2002 and currently run by SITA. (SITA is the group that formed and currently operates Dot Aero Council.) According to IATA Airline Designators, two-letter codes for website names using the aero-domain are reserved only for airlines. Three-letter codes has been originally reserved for airports per IATA airport code, but they have been released for availability to be registered by the greater aviation and aerospace community as of December 1, 2008.
History
The aero-domain as a top-level domain was at first approved in 2001 for a 5-year term. This term expired on December 17, 2006, but was then was extended starting in October 2006 for another six month term through June of 2007. Regular renewal continued until 2009 when SITA and ICANN finalized a 10-year sponsorship for the continued efficacy and operation of the aero-domain.
Those in the industry appreciate that the aero-domain is exclusive to members of the aviation and aerospace community, setting them apart from traditional TDLs. An added bonus is that the internet space is managed by aviation as well. While owning and using an aero-domain does not differ fundamentally from using the more traditional domains like .com or .org, it is set apart by its ability to define its own regulations and policies. This is in order to protect and maintain the integrity of the aero domain and all that it stands for.
High Standards
All registrants for the aero-domain are checked for eligibility. For other public internet domain options, the web addresses are simply registered on a first come, first served basis, with no other registration criteria or requirements. However, with a more exclusive aero-domain, an aero ID must be obtained first before consideration for an aero-domain. This screening process in general checks for validity and ensures that applicants are valid members of the aviation and aerospace community. In this way, the integrity of the aero domain is maintained, and the danger of “cyber squatters” and other domain name speculators is reduced.
More That Just a Name
The aero-domain goes beyond just domain name registration and providing internet space; it also helps to deliver helpful and innovative services for the internet that are built on aviation-specific coding and naming structures. If you are qualified, the registration and use of an aero domain is actually quite easy; it will not interfere with any existing domain structures in place. This feature is especially appreciated by air transport businesses that have already established an internet presence utilizing their country domain name and/or company name.
Price and conditions
The price of each aero-domain (2nd level domain) and of each name at an official subdomain (3rd level domain) is 100 US-Dollar per year. As credentials please send your SITA ID and Keyword. If you have not got a SITA ID, it is sufficient to send us the name of your website with aviation content.
We will do all necessary paperwork for you!
