Everybody can apply for eu-domains.
There are many good names, which are still free at .eu. Secure your European identity and register the names which are
important to you.
EU-Domains with special characters or IDN domains have been around since 2009.
The difference to the new Cyrillic eu-Domains (.xn--e1a4c-Domains) and Greek eu-Domains (.xn--qxa6a-Domains) is that the Cyrillic or Greek special characters are now also right of the dot.
The Cyrillic eu-Domain looks like this:
The principle is: Latin names only with Latin .eu, Cyrillic names only with Cyrillic eu version.
The General Availability of Greek version of .eu starts November 14, 2019. You can pre-register your eu-Domain in Greek letters today.
The new Greek eu-Domain looks like this:

IDN or eu-domains with special characters
We are accepting registration of IDNs at .eu.
Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) are domain names that may contain non-ASCII characters. An example for an special character is e.g. è. These special characters include letters with accents and characters in non-Latin languages such as Greek, for example.
The implementation of IDNs at eu-domains supports all characters of all the 23 official EU languages.
Registration of expired eu-domains
We are registering eu-domains in quarantine.
If a eu-domain is deleted by the owner or the provider of the owner, it is not longer active, but stays restorable.
The status of the deleted eu-domains are in "quarantine". The owner or
provider of the owner can restore the eu-domains.
If the eu-domain is not restored within 40 days, the domain is definetly deleted.
ICANN Registrar Secura is able to register eu-domains in quarantine in the moment of their final deletion.
This is a service for domain owners, who have lost their eu-domains by negligence or for interested parties seeking
an interesting eu-domain.
You can read the conditions here.
